About Career Mentors

Mentoring Reflection

This academic year I held close to 60 one-to-one career consultations. In each conversation I tried to help students work out a direction of their own, based on who they are and what they need, and encouraged them to build their expertise through hands-on projects, competitions and research.

Over those many in-depth conversations I could feel how uncertain and anxious students are about the pace of technological change. So I drew on my own industry experience and network to plan a series of career talks, inviting front-line industry specialists onto campus to unpack the latest technologies and industry trends. Through these exchanges I hope to open up a wider view, help students see clearly what the market really needs, and find the direction and confidence to move forward in changing times.
